Written and directed by Andrew Frost Music by Antilöpe Where do memories come from? Do they exist inside us, locked away, safe and private?
Or are they much weirder than we can understand, perhaps existing as much in the outside world as they are inside our minds? Memory Hole examines the nature of memory, how it exists physically in our brains, the types of memory we retain, and how we forget. This is a personal documentary as it relates to my earliest memories, and how they were captured in the family archive of images. Using these images as the basis of AI video generation brings them back to life in a way that I found personally affecting, as if the ai animation somehow provided a window through time.
The video explores a technique of telling a story in way that is essentially metaphorical in nature. Instead of the usual documentary approach, I found that using AI allows for a much more imaginative engagement with the source material, and the potential to expand and elaborate on what exists, and what can be created, is an exciting aspect of the new ai technologies… The video was created using images taken from a variety of sources including the Frost and Shea family archive, from public domain libraries and generated images using MidJourney. These images were transformed into video using Runway, MidJourney and Luma Labs.
